Profile
Dynamic business owner; bachelor with a young son;
older neighborhood; a mid-century home
Wish List
~ After fifty years, bring my home into the 21st
century!
~ Upgrade my kitchen.
~ What can you do about my master suite?
~ Keep two bedrooms--my son's and a guest.
~ Enclose carport to make a garage deep enough to
park a full-size pickup.
Challenges
~ Setback requirements kept us from extending the
garage toward the street.
~ An existing 1600 SF ell-shaped home with a 1:21
sloped roof
~ 2 x 6 ceiling joists prevented us from using recessed
can lighting.

Solutions and Gains
~ Add an upstairs master suite.
~ Converted the existing master bedroom into a mud
room, office, and landing zone for the new upstairs.
~ Also took 8' of the former master to create room
for the garage to extend into the home.
~ Enclose the area in the "ell" of the home to make
an amazing media room.
~ Displaying art connects the the kitchen to the
adjacent living/dining rooms.
~ The open wall space also created room for pullouts
in a 30"-deep pantry to extend.
~ The low-sloped ceiling was given life with a curvaceous
monorail lighting system, reflected by the Abbaka Arc hood.
~ The rich cabinetry is African ribbon mahogany.
Mahogany was commonly used in mid-century homes.
~ Countertops blended concrete and stainless steel.
Through the double doors is an outdoor kitchen.
