Before
~ A standard 4-bedroom rambler with 93" ceilings and right-angle pathways.
~ The kitchen looked north and to the street.
~ It was disconnected from the entertaining deck and the surrounding rooms.
~ Guests entering the home were immediately in the kitchen--like the first apartment many of us have. 
~ Storage was inadequate.

The TV wall becomes the micro/refrigerator wall in the After plan. The fireplace is where the wine/hospitality center is located. The former kitchen becomes the location of the powder room.

Solution & Gains
~ Landon proposed opening up the home by removing the fireplace and moving the kitchen into their current living room.
~ Raise the sill of the bay window and put the main kitchen sink in front of it. "Soak up the light!"
~ "Create an honest-to-goodness entry with an adjacent powder room."
~ Feature your red wine collection and also screen the kitchen from the entry.
~ Raise the ceiling and add six skylights in the new main room of the kitchen and down the dark hallway to the bedrooms.
~ Add a bit more square footage by enclosing about half of the covered deck. 
~ Base cabinets are extra-deep with drawers that are 24"- and 27"-long, effectively doubling usable storage under the counters.
~ The cooking station has an unusual arrangement with twin induction cooktops and a chef's sink in between. The sink can be covered with a butcher block when wanted.
~ Cabinets are in red birch; counters are Golden Jade granite; the wine center is in Classico Satin soapstone.
~ To match the scale of the room, the cabinets have 4-1/2" rails and stiles. The center flat panel is actually solid red birch.
~ The handles on the refrigerator as replacement handles for the Miele Speed Oven! 
~ The hood is the Trapeze hood from Cheng Design.


The kitchen is where the living room formely was!
