Here is one of Richard Landon's kitchens from HOME
magazine's Best Kitchen and Bath Ideas.
Where the range is now, the original plan called
for the sink to be looking out an 8'-wide window--at the neighbor's house!

By placing the Viking Professional Range in the center of the composition, the owner now has an unobstructed view of Lake Washington to the right and a beautiful presentation for them to enjoy as they enter the kitchen. Counters are of butcher block except around the sink which is set into an emerald-green marble slab. The hand-painted tiles along the backsplash are from Portugal. The brick is authentic. The copper hood was custom-made--the most difficult task being hammering in the design. The cabinets were brush-painted with an off-white paint. The one-piece panels in the cabinet doors are routed to look as though they were made of several individual pieces of wood; glass-doored cabinets have "true divided lites." Note the shallow open spice rack next to the coffee maker. The French door to the left leads into a pantry area and the back door of the home. To the right is a relaxing family area with sofas, a fireplace, a window seat, and built-in cabinetry housing the stereo and television components. Mr. Landon once had four projects featured
in the same issue of House Beautiful's "Kitchens/Baths" quarterly--a rare
"grand slam"--and obvious testimony to his ability to create projects that
have a certain "feel" to them without a certain "look" that would clue
viewers to their common ancestry.
