Designing for How You Imagine Your Home Will Feel

Before
~ The headers above the standard height doors not only blocked the view, but created a chaotic array of shapes and grids.
~ The 2-1/2-story great room felt cavernous and uninviting for visiting with guests.
~ The kitchen was quite visible from the great room.
Wish List
~ A new kitchen.
~ That was pretty much it.
~ They got so much more than they expected!

Landon drove over to Ellensburg and walked the home. He noted how the existing view and people pathways we compromised. The laundry was visible from both the the living and dining room (through the doorway right of the refrigerator). The powder room opened into the living room. To reach the bonus room and guest suite meant walking through the laundry, into the garage, past cars, through a door, and up stairs.

Solution & Gains
~ Landon recommended shifting the kitchen into the dining room.
~ Next, he visualized an ocular in the great room to not only lower the ceiling and give more intimacy to the room, but to also create twin overlooks on the second floor. The railing is comprised of oak store doors turned on their sides.
~ The rocky, high desert site inspired the 30'-long Eldorado Stone wall.
~ Shifting the kitchen opened up the center of the home, allowing direct access to be developed to the bonus room above the garage.
~ Key to that access was enclosing an existing porch. This also allowed the door to the laundry to be relocated.
~ Base cabinets are extra-deep with drawers that are 24"- and 27"-long, effectively doubling usable storage under the counters.
